Plan your Canada SIM before you leave India
You already have a lot to arrange before leaving India. Flights. Documents. Accommodation. Getting from the airport. College or work. Baggage. Your first few days in a new country. Finding a mobile plan after landing does not have to become another item on that list.
Sorting it here means you understand your Canadian mobile options before you leave, choose a plan that fits your stay, and know exactly what to expect when you arrive.

Imagine your first hour in Canada
You collect your luggage and leave the terminal. Right then you want data — for maps, a ride, transit apps, messages, or simply telling your family in India that you arrived safely.
You could start researching Canadian mobile plans at that point. Or you could have settled it before you left. That is the whole idea here: one less decision to make after a long flight.
This is not a claim that you must have a Canadian SIM before arriving. It is the option to prepare it in advance.

Who is this Canada SIM for?
Students going from India to Canada
Starting college or university in another country already involves enough planning. Your mobile connection can be one of the simpler decisions — compare the plans, check your phone, and know what activation looks like before your term starts.
See options for studentsWorkers travelling to Canada
You will want mobile access soon after arrival for maps, transport, recruiter calls, and everyday use. Compare the plans before you travel and choose based on the data you actually expect to use.
See options for work permitsVisitors and families
Coming to Canada for a few weeks or months? Your needs are different from someone staying a year. Look at your length of stay, expected data, calls and budget before choosing — a prepaid plan may suit you better.
See options for visitorsPreparing for a longer stay
If Canada is going to be home for several months or longer, your mobile plan becomes part of everyday life. Sorting it before departure gives you time to compare instead of deciding on your first jet-lagged afternoon.

From India, the eSIM is usually the simpler answer. Here is why.
eSIM
An eSIM is a digital SIM built into compatible phones — there is no card to insert. It is the option that works from India: the QR code is emailed to you before your flight, so nothing has to reach you by post. Scan it, and your Canadian line installs in a few taps.
Check eSIM compatibility →Not sure which one you need?
That is normal. Start by checking your phone. The checker below helps you work out:
- ✓Whether your device supports eSIM
- ✓Whether your phone needs to be unlocked first
- ✓Which SIM format suits your situation
- ✓What to confirm on the handset before you order
- ✓Whether you need a Canadian address for delivery
Check your phone before you order
Compatibility depends on your exact model, whether it is carrier-unlocked, and whether the Indian retail unit shipped with eSIM hardware. This is guidance, not a device database — always confirm on the handset itself before you pay.
1. Pick your phone brand
2. How old is the phone?
Can I just use my Indian SIM in Canada?
Possibly. Whether it works and what it costs depends on your Indian operator, your plan, and its international roaming terms.
For a two-week trip the answer may well be yes. For a semester, a work assignment, or a move, roaming is priced for the wrong thing — and it still leaves you without a Canadian number, which is what banks, landlords and employers actually ask for.
Compare Canada SIM optionsBefore deciding, compare
- What your Indian carrier charges for a Canada roaming pack
- How much data that pack actually includes
- How long the pack lasts, and what happens after
- Calling and SMS terms while roaming
- The cost of a Canadian SIM or eSIM instead
- How long you are staying
SIM activation should be simple — even if you are not technical
The question most people have before ordering online is: will I be able to activate it myself? The instructions are written in plain language, and for most phones the setup takes a couple of minutes.
- 01
Order before you fly
Choose a plan, fill in your details, and upload your passport and permit or visa document. No payment is taken at this stage.
- 02
Receive your eSIM or SIM details
Once your documents are checked, your eSIM QR code arrives by email. A physical SIM is posted to the Canadian address you gave.
- 03
Follow the steps on your phone
For an eSIM, scan the QR code with your camera and confirm a couple of settings. For a physical SIM, insert the card when you arrive.
- 04
Land connected
Your line activates up to 24 hours before the arrival date you gave us, so the number is generally working the moment you land.
“I am not good with technology.”
That should not stop you. The setup is meant to be followable even if you have never installed an eSIM before. If anything is unclear, contact support while you are still in India — that is the easiest moment to fix a locked phone or a wrong device.
Rogers or Fido: which option is right for you?

Your payment should feel as clear as your plan
Ordering from another country means trusting a website with your documents before you have anything in your hand. The least we can do is be exact about what happens to your money.
Nothing is charged when you submit the order. Your documents are checked, your plan is confirmed with you, and only then do you pay. The summary follows whichever carrier you picked above.

Should you arrange your Canada SIM before or after landing?
Both are possible. The difference is mainly when you want to spend the time researching, comparing, and setting things up.
Before leaving India
- Compare plans — with time to read the details properly
- Total cost — review pricing and inclusions before you travel
- Phone compatibility — check your device while you can still call your Indian operator
- eSIM or physical SIM — decide the format before you travel
- Activation — read the steps before your flight
- Ask questions — resolve them before you board
- Time after landing — less to handle on arrival
After arriving in Canada
- Compare plans — research after arrival, among every other first-day task
- Total cost — compare prices once you are in Canada
- Phone compatibility — find out at the counter, with no easy route to an unlock
- eSIM or physical SIM — choose from whatever the retailer stocks
- Activation — learn the process while setting up service
- Ask questions — handled after arrival, when you are ready
- Time after landing — still need to compare, choose and arrange
If you already have flights, accommodation, transport, and college or work arrangements to think about, settling your Canada SIM before leaving India is simply one less decision waiting for you on the other side.

Canada SIM from India — questions
Can I get a Canada SIM card while I am still in India?
Yes. You order on this site before you fly, upload your passport and permit or visa document, and receive an eSIM QR code by email. The line activates up to 24 hours before the arrival date you give us, so the Canadian number is generally live by the time you land.
Can I get a Canadian eSIM from India?
Yes, provided your phone supports eSIM. That is the part worth checking carefully: several brands ship their Indian retail units without the eSIM hardware their global models have. Use the compatibility checker on this page, then confirm on the handset itself before you order.
Can a physical Canadian SIM be delivered to me in India?
No. Physical SIM cards are posted to a Canadian address — your own place, a hotel, or a friend or relative already in the city. If you have no Canadian address yet, choose the eSIM, which is delivered by email and needs nothing posted anywhere.
Will my Indian phone work with a Canadian SIM?
It has to be carrier-unlocked, meaning it accepts a SIM from an operator other than the one that sold it. Phones bought outright usually are; phones on an instalment plan often are not, and only your Indian operator can unlock them. Sort that out before you fly — it is a phone call from home and a much harder problem from Canada.
Will my Indian SIM work in Canada?
Possibly, on international roaming, but whether it works and what it costs depends entirely on your Indian operator and plan. Roaming is priced for a short trip. If you are staying a semester or longer, compare the roaming pack against a Canadian plan on total cost, data, and whether you end up with a Canadian number at all.
Should I get my SIM before going to Canada?
It is a personal choice. Arranging it before you travel means you research the plan, compatibility, cost, and setup while you have time, and you land with a working number. Buying after arrival means deciding once you are physically in Canada, in the same week you are also finding housing, banking, and transport.
Which is better for me: Rogers or Fido?
There is no single answer. The Rogers plan at $40 a month gives 100 GB at high speed with hotspot included; the Fido plan at $35 a month gives 75 GB with no hotspot. If you tether a laptop or have unreliable home internet, take Rogers. If you mostly use wifi and want the lower monthly cost, Fido is enough.
What documents do I need?
Your passport, plus your permit or visa document — a study permit, work permit, or visitor record depending on why you are travelling. Both are uploaded on the order form. No Canadian address, no SIN, and no Canadian credit history are needed to order.
Will I receive a Canadian phone number?
Yes — an ordinary Canadian mobile number that receives calls and SMS from any Canadian service, including bank verification codes and two-factor logins. It stays yours for as long as the plan is active.
Are there any activation or setup fees?
No. Neither monthly plan on this page carries a setup fee, and no payment is taken when you submit the order. Your documents are checked and your plan confirmed with you first; you pay at checkout after that.
Can I cancel the plan?
Yes. There is no contract and no cancellation fee on either plan — contact support to stop it. Bear in mind that ending the plan is what ends your claim on the number, so if you want to keep the same number through a gap, ask support before you cancel.
What happens if my eSIM does not install?
Contact support. Most cases are a locked handset or a phone whose Indian variant has no eSIM hardware, and both are far easier to deal with while you are still in India. If the eSIM cannot work on your device, a physical SIM can be posted to your Canadian address instead.
